I was just listening to Rubber Soul. There are probably people out there who think that “beetles” the animal is spelled like “Beatles” the band. Much like how to internet has convinced way too many people that “loose” is the correct spelling for “lose.” Sigh 🙄
After too many interruptions, I finally finished watching the original The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with my special lady friend. It was such a fun, jaunty movie and really solidified Danny Kaye’s brilliance for me. I loved it. 🎥🍿
Until just this last week I’d always put my phone in my left pocket, screen in, and the Lightning connector down. I’m working on transitioning to Lightning connector up and it’s been really breaking my brain.
Being a Guy Ritchie fan, The Gentlemen was right up my alley. It was fun, energetic, and told a clever story. I really recommend it. 🎥🍿
After writing two long blog posts in just a couple hours, my butt is dead tired. I think I need to get a new desk chair before my backside falls right off.
I watched Enemy for probably the third time since it came out. Every time I see this strange, unique film I learn something new about the story. It’s a great, still mostly undiscovered gem. 🎥🍿
It’s tax filing time for me. Ugh. My federal return isn’t great but at least my state return is pretty decent this year. More than anything, I’ll just be glad to have it finished for another year.
I’m super late to the game, but I just started watching Westworld last night. I’d tried watching it once before, but couldn’t get into it. Now though, I’m feeling super sucked into the story. I can’t wait to see where it goes before the third season premieres in March. 📺
It’s always great fun to spend some time doing my own work with my fiancée in her classroom/office. I feel as productive as ever, plus there’s someone nice to talk with. I’m such a bore when I work by myself.
I watched This Is Where I Leave You yesterday in preparation for recording a podcast about it tonight. The movie was certainly fine and told its story. The only thing holding it up was the strength of the acting. 🎥🍿
I just finished watching the first season of Homecoming and was enthralled the whole way through. It had a great mystery throughout and Julia Roberts was fabulous. 📺
Since starting to record a podcast with my friend, my mind is filled with ideas for potential other podcast shows I can do. I feel like I live my life on a slippery slope.
I had a great time watching Bella with a good friend of mine. That was a fine movie with a pacing and style you don’t usually see in movies these days. Definitely worth a watch. 🎥
Considering how wonderful Unbreakable and Split were, it was disappointing to see how underwhelming Glass was. There was such potential for a great superhero story in that film. It really did not live up to that promise. 🎥🍿
I spent nearly all day shopping for a new couch with the fiancée today. Furniture shopping is weirdly time-consuming, but with her it was a blast. I can’t wait to break in the new couch when it’s delivered.
It took way too long for me to get to it, but my Dandy Cat Design website finally has a working automatic dark mode. Feels pretty nice to tick that one off my list. Huzzah! 🎉
Everyone’s talking about chilly mornings and I’m over here wondering why the heck it’s going to be in the 70s in mid-February. At least the lows are still low here.
The holy grail of my work life (like so many others) is to get paid for doing the work that I’d like to do. Managing freelance work for other people gives me more anxiety than I think is healthy.
If anybody has ever found a way to make drawing up and working with freelance contracts make all the sense and be enjoyable, then I am all ears.
Got out of a productive, yet kind of nerve-wracking, meeting a little while ago. Just had a filling lunch. Topped that off with a chocolate chip cookie. If I’m not careful, I’m going to end up taking a very long nap. 😴
I thought Birds of Prey was a fun one to watch. Better than people are giving it credit for. Rosie Perez was fantastic. I really want to see a complete movie with Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress character now. 🎥🍿
The Lighthouse was just… Wow. That film was something else. Beautifully filmed, chock-full of symbolism, and always unsettling. It’s rare that you get to witness a descent into madness depicted so well in film. 🎥🍿
I would pay Apple a subscription fee forever if I could hide the app reviews from people complaining about how they don’t want to pay subscription fees. “$10 a year?!?! Only millionaires can afford this sort of scam!!!1!111!!”
I can’t think of another person who deserved the cinematography Oscar more than Roger Deakins. I’m so happy he’s finally receiving the Academy Award-winning recognition he should have been getting for a long time. 🎥🍿
Here’s hoping for another Roger Deakins win at the Oscars later this evening. Admittedly, I haven’t seen all the other cinematography nominations, but come on. 1917 was a gorgeous technical marvel. 🎥🍿
